Discover Windows 8

Windows 8 Release Date Announced

Windows 8 has officially been confirmed for release on the 26th October 2012. The new operating system from Microsoft will be available on laptops, desktops, smartphone & tablets, including Microsoft’s own Surface tablet device. Windows 8 has made some radical changes from its predecessors, signalling one of the biggest Windows OS changes to date. The new intuitive Windows 8 app model makes it even easier for businesses users to create their own line-of-business apps that can help to enhance productivity, and are even available on tablet devices. The OS speed has also been vastly improved over its predecessor, so you can find what you need even faster. IT administrators will also be happy to know that reliability & security are now even more stable and Windows 8 works seamlessly with an existing Windows management infrastructure.

So the question is, how will Windows 8 operating system benefit your business as a whole?

Let’s find out the top benefits for users and IT departments.

End-Users

Immersive & fully-integrated solution

End-users will primarily benefit from an immersive and fully integrated experience. Qualified as “Metro-style,” the new user interface of Windows 8 will enable users to switch from multi-touch tablets to traditional keyboard and mouse interfaces found on desktops and laptops, creating a fully integrated solution to boost business productivity and cater to the needs of mobile workforces.
A radical new Start

A radical new Start

One of the most striking differences will be the new Start screen composed of colourful tiles, from which programmes can be grouped and accessed quickly. Much like your smart phone, Windows 8 allows you to organise your favourite programmes and apps the way you need to stay most productive.

While standard apps will come with Windows 8—including the new Internet Explorer® 10, a mail app, photo viewer, etc—users will be able to quickly search, find, and download a variety of software applications from the built-in Windows Store, helping create a deeper personalised experience. Further enhancements will include a new generation of programmes (the Metro-style apps) that remove window panes, close buttons, scrollbars and menu bars, new file-management features, more Explorer functionalities, an improved task manager, a new reset feature, and new options for multiple-monitor users.

Switch back & forth between tablet & PC

With a growing number of business people on the go and in search for greater flexibility, Windows 8 will make the switch from your laptop or desktop to your tablet seamless. The operating system integrates a touch keyboard for tablets allowing you to stay productive whatever device you are using.

Connect to the cloud

Connect to the cloud

Windows 8 will be cloud-connected, meaning it will let you access the files, update settings, and connect to the people you need whenever and wherever you are. Sign in to your Microsoft account and get instant access to your files and documents whether they be found on Microsot SkyDrive® or other services.

IT Pros

Enhanced architecture & simplified deployment

While the Metro-style platform and new Start screen will certainly be the striking differences between Windows 8 and its predecessors, the new operating system will come with many other improved features that will please IT departments. Amongst these will be the ability to run Windows 8 on existing hardware and boot machines in record times. Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system will indeed be compatible with existing hardware, even ones that predated the Windows 7 release. IT pros will also be happy to learn that the new OS has been architected for a radically faster boot-up time estimated at just 8 seconds. This means faster software updates and other computer updates that need a system restart. Other enhancements include the operating system’s ability to support UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) secure boot. The latter helps protect against boot loader attacks for added security.
